THE LIQUOR ISSUE

COMPLETED RETURNS FOR THAMES OVER 2 TO 1 FOR CONTINUANCE. The completed returns on the licensing issue in the Thames electorate show that 6749 votes were exercised in favour of continuance, compared with 3204 for prohibition and 893 for State purchase and control, the remaining 167 votes of a total of 11,013 cast being declared informal. It is interesting however, to note that while the continuance vote at practically all other polling places in the electorate exceeded that for prohibition by upwards of two to one, and in some cases was well over that figure, the majority in and about Waihi was much smaller.
