WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
WAITAKARURU.
The Waitakaruru Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting last Thursday, Mrs Coxhead presiding over a very enthusiastic gathering of members. As the president is to represent the Institute at the bi-annual Federation Conference in Auckland next month, it was decided to hold the May meeting on the fourth Thursday in order that a report of the Conference may be made by Mrs Coxhead and also that she may be in the chair as usual, the ordinary day for meeting being the exact date of the Conference. Some time was spent in discussing the remits, etc., of the Conference. A quantity of goods made by the Soldiers’ Re-establishment League were displayed on the sales table for disposal. A competition for the best plate of scones provided sufficient scones for a delicious afternoon tea, the winner being Mrs McClune, with Mrs Hedge taking second place. Community singing, with Mrs Coxhead as song leader, went with a swing and is certainly going to prove to be a very popular innovation this year. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames Death, Godkin, and Garlond.
