PAEROA-HAURAKI ASSN. ANNUAL MEETING. . The annual meeting of the PaeroaHauraki Returned Soldiers’ Association Inc. was held in the Soldiers’ Clubroom, Paeroa, on Wednesday evening, Mr E. Edwards presiding over an attendance of thirty-odd members . Apologies were received from a number of members. Officers. Officers elected were as follows: — Patron, Mr A. M. Samuel, M. P. (re-elected); president, Mr E. Edwards (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs E. A. Mahoney (Ngatea), W. Mclnnes (Kerepeehi), A. H. M. Farrell (Paeroa), and O. M. Samuel (Paeroa), all re-elected; committee, Messrs S. H. Anderson (Kaihere), F. C. Hubbard (Paeroa), T. Lynch (Kerepeehi), W. Forrest (Paeroa), P. G. Pearce (Kerepeehi), E. W. Harris (Paeroa), B. S. Hunter (Paeroa), G. S. Masters (Paeroa), J. H. •Bartlett (Paeroa), W. A. Reid i(Netherton), J. H. McCorquodale (Paeroa) and V. J. Innes (Paeroa); treasurer, Mr D. A. Vincent (reelected); secretary, Mr J. H. Walmsley (re-elected); honorary auditor, Mr 0. N. O’Neill (re-elected). .. Anzac Day. The president reported that Anzac Day would be observed this year as in former years. The Regimental Band would be in attendance. It was hoped that the attendance of returned men would again show an increase in number. A suggestion had been made that in addition to placing a wreath on the Cenotaph a wreath be placed on the Bradford memorial in memory of those who fell in the South African War. The arrangements suggested were approved. Poppy Day. It was agreed that Poppy Day be April 24, the day before Anzac Day. Offers of assistance in the sale of poppies were received from the Girl Guides Committee and the Paeroa Women’s Institute and were gratefully accepted. . It was suggested that poppies be on sale at the’Kerepeehi sports but opposition to this was expressed as tending to cheapen the emblem. It was decided that they be offered for sale but not hawked. Re-unions. ‘ Invitations to attend annual reunions at Katikati on April 23, Tau1 ranga on April 24, Morrinsville .on April 27 and Waihi on May 4, were received and it was announced that ar- / rangements. would be made for the transport of those who wished to attend. 1 Thanks for Donation. Mr J. H. Bartlett, secretary of the Paeroa Territorial Forces Association, expressed thanks for the donation received from the previous annual meeting and explained how it had been applied for the benefit of territorials. ‘•Burned Out” Soldiers. Mr T. Lynch asked for further details of the proposed legislation for the benefit of “burned-out” returned soldiers to that published in the “Hauraki Plains Gazette.” The circular letter from Headquarters of the Association, which had been summarised jn the newspaper, was read, and the president asked members knowing of cases to report them to the branch. Re-union on Plains. Mr E. A. Mahoney suggested that it would be a wise'move to hold one of the re-unions at Kerepeehi as it may induce many Hauraki Plains returned ■soldiers to join the Association., The idea was favoured and the executive undertook to give it very serious consideration.
