OHINEMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.

MR. MARSHALL ELECTED.

Mr W. Marshall, Mayor of Paeroa,

succeeds Mr W. F. Johnstone as the

Paeroa riding representative on the I Ohinemuri County Council as the* result of the triennial election held on Wednesday last. Mr G. Hoye, the ' Waihi riding representative, retained his seat, so that the new council will contain but three new members, Messrs W. Marshall (Paeroa), J. J. Shallue (Mangaiti), who was elected unopposed in place of Cr. C. E. Mace, • retired, and M. A. Ellis (Kaimanawa), who replaces Cr. R. R. Morrison, retired. Power Board. Mr C. Mason had no difficulty in winning the seat, on the Thames Valley Power" Board, rendered vacant by the retirement of Mr H. M. Corbett, as the representative of Ohinemuri county.

liam Madgwick, of Turua riding, Cr. z James Alexander Reid, of Netherton

riding, Cr. Andrew Stanley Fisher, of Kerepeehi riding, Cr. John Frederick Mayn, of Patetonga riding, Cr. Joseph Stanley McClune, of Waitakaruru riding, and Cr. John Motion, of Ngatea riding, .were returned unopposed. < In the other three ridings, Horahia, Kopuarahi, and Pipiroa an election was necessary, two nominations being

. received for each seat. In Horahia the contest was between the present councillor, William McDuff and Mr Samuel Shaw Murray, of TuPha; in Kopuarahi between the present councillor, William Edward Hale and Mr Percival Raymond Henry; and in Pipiroa between the present councillor, Charles Walter Parfitt, and Mr Henry Theodore Penrys-Evans.of Waitakaruru. In Horahia,’ of the possible 117 votes, 110 were cast, these on the provisional count being McDuff .68, Murray 42, a majority for Cr. McDuff of 26 votes. For the Kopuarahi riding there were 90 eligible votes, 86 of which were cast, 47 going to Hale and 38 to Henry, a majority of 9 votes for Cr. Hale. One vote was informal. In the Pipiroa riding of the possible 113 votes, only 82 v ere cast, 60 Agoing in favour of Parfitt, and 20 in favour of Evans, a majority of 40 for Cr. Parfitt, the rest being informal. The official count yesterday failed to alter the representation of the ridings, or to reduce the margins as /given above so that the old Cotmcil will serve a-further three years’ term. Other Representatives. There were only sufficient nominations to fill the positions necessary on ■' other local bodies, an election thereby being rendered unnecessary. The Hauraki Plains County will therefore be represented as follows: — Thames Hospital Board. William Edward. Hale, Charles Walter Parfitt and Ernest Leslie Walton. Thames Valley Power Board.

Totara Riding—Henry Lowe 75, and James McCormick 65 (reelected), Edgar Clark 52. Puriri Riding—Daniel Courtney 70, and G. H. A. Cribb 61 (re-elected), E. J. Smith 39, R. B. Thomas 19. Hikutaia Riding—Alf. Alley 64 and W. Brunton 68 (re-elected), F. B. Burkhardt 43.

Tairua Riding—J. H. Prescott 27, P. Williamson 26; result in doubt; 5 declaration votes to come.

COROMANDEL COUNTY.

Coromandel Riding—Hugh Howell 182, W. C. Denize, senr, 156, R. Campbell 155 (new members elected) C. W. Hovell 101, E. McLoughlin 114, (old members defeated) S. H. Alien 43.

Colville Riding—Capt. B. Dawson 72 (new member), "A. J. Denize 63 (re-elected), H. 0. Mellsop 61 (unsuccessful), C. Geard 28 (old member defeated). Whitianga Riding—N. A. Wells 90 (re-elected), J- G. Browne 32. Hospital Board. Four of • the previous members, Messrs R. Campbell, E. Denize, W’. J. Gamble, and Mrs Hovell were returned and one, Mrs Woodhouse was defeated. Other members elected were Messrs W. C. Denize," V. R. Hawley, H. T. Johnson and W. H. Turner.
