THE CONDUCTOR’S COMMENT. The following story Is told of an English authority on music. On one occasion he was conducting an orchestral accompaniment for a soloist whose ideas of time and rhythm were but rudimentary. “ For heaven’s sake," he exclaimed, “remember that this is an orchestra and not an elastic band! ’’
