SACRED CONCERT.

WAIHI CHORISTERS VISIT PAEROA. AN EVENING WITH MENDELSSOHN. Last evening a large audience assembled in St .Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and listened with much pleasure to a programme of Mendelssohn’s music, rendered by the Waihi choristers. Consisting of anthems, quartettes and solos, the programme was beautifully and impressively executed, and will long remain a pleasant memory with all those who were so fortunate as to be present. At the opening of the evening Rev. J. D. McFarlane gave a short and interesting sketch of the famous musicians’ career,- after which the following items, chosen from a wealth -f wonderful music, were rendered: — “How Lovely are the Messengers,” Waihi Choristers; selections from “St. Paul,” “Jerusalem, Jerusalem,” MissM. Hollis, and “Hear My Prayer,” Miss M. Paterson and Waihi Choristers. A number of selections from "Elijah” were then rendered as follows: “Ye People Rend Your Hearts” and “If with all your Hearts.” Mr Armour; “For He Shall Give His Angels,” Misses Patterson, Collier, Goodwin, Mrs Spence, Messrs Brown, Armour, Baxter, and Dunstan; “Lord God of Abraham,” Mr Baxter; “Cast Thy Burden,” Miss Collier, Mrs Brown, Messrs Brown and Baxter; “Woe Unto Them” and “But the Lord,” Miss D. Goodwin; “Hear Ye Israel,” Mrs N. L. Lithgow; “Be Not Afraid,” Waihi Choristers; “It is Enough,” Mr Baxter; “Lift Thine Eyes,” Miss Collier, Mesdames Brown and Jones; “He Watching Over Israel,” Waihi Choristers; recit, Mr R. Baxter; "O Rest in the Lord,” Mrs J. W. Jones; "He That Shall Endure, to the End,” Waihi Choristers; “Then Shall the Righteous,’ Mr Armour; “O Come, Everyone That Thirsteth,” Mesdamesk Lithgow and Jones, Messrs Armour and Baxter.

Mrs Brown presided at the organ and Mrs J. W. Jones at the piano. At the close of the evening, on behalf of the Presbyterian Church, Mr G. Buchanan proposed a hearty vote of thanks for the musical treat which had been provided by the visitors. This was enthusiastically carried by. acclamation.
