HOUSEHOLD HINTS.

RENOVATING RUSTY SPRING MATTRESSES. If your spring mattress is rusty, give it a good brushing, then follow with a coat of aluminium paint. It greatly improves the appearance of the mattress, and if properly done will not rust again. Only a small tin of the mixture is required, as it covers well. CLEAN WALLPAPER. To freshen and clean wallpaper try lightly brushing down the surface with a soft brush, then get a pad made from an old blanket or similar material, and dust with Fuller's earth and salt in equal parts. The salt brightens the tints on the paper. STAINS ON TEA CUPS. Tea cups are often seen with unsightly brown stains on the inside. These may be removed by rubbing with a little salt while the cup is wet. HINT ON PACKING. When packing a pleated skirt, cut the foot off an old stocking and draw the skirt through it. This will ensure the pleats being kept in place. The skirt will be uncreased when unpacked.

STAINING FLOORS. To prevent the paint on a skirting board becoming splashed when staining a floor, hold a piece of thin cardboard against it, moving the cardboard along as you work. Drawing pins may be used to keep it in place. This Msvcs a lot of trouble, for, no matter what care is taken, a few splashes occur. TILED HEARTHS. To clean a tiled hearth and brighten the colours, go over it with floor polish instead of water. FLIES AND MOSQUITOES. Flics and mosquitoes greatly dislike the odour of oil of lavender. Oil of geranium is also fragrant, and just as good for keeping the insects at bay. To clear n room of flies, fill a large bowl with steaming-hot water, and into it sprinkle a little lavcndar. It also has a most refreshing effect on the room. STALE BUNS. When buns are fitnle dip them in milk and heat them gradually in the oven. Butter them while hot, and they will be delicious.
