RIFLE SHOOTING.

PAEROA DEFENCE CLUB. OPENING OF SEASON. A large number of members and --f friends of members of the Pacroa Defence Rifle Club assembled at the Paeroa rifle range on Saturday afternoon, on the occasion of the opening shoot of the season. In order that all present coukl have an opportunity of firing from two ranges no time was lost. Mrs F. C. Hubbard, wife of the president, fired the first shot and a bull’s eye was signalled. Then members and visitors fired from the 200 yards range, and though many of the visitors han not handled a rifle for years, sonic very good scores were put up. Ammunition was provided free and members of the advised visitors how ‘o sight to allow for wind, etc. After moving to the 500 yards range, the light became bad on account of the low hung thunder clouds, but good shooting was witnessed. During the progress of this shoot afternoon tea was served by the large number of ladies who were present, and the president of the club (Mr F. C. Hubbard) spoke briefly so as not to delay the sport. He thanked all those who had honoured Ihe club by their presence, and expressed the hope that they had so enjoyed themselves that they would join the club, or at last visit it again. Particularly he thanked the ladies, who had provided the afternoon tea. . The scoring was as follows, the * maximum being 80: —
