THE FIRST NEWSPAPER.
PUBLISHED 300 YEARS AGO. • It is not certain which was the first newspaper, but many say that it appeared in Germany m 1609. The English periodical .was entitled “Weekly Newes,” from Italy, Germany, &c. It was .published in London in May, 1622, by Nicholas Bourne •and Thomas Archer. A copy may be seen in the British' Museum. The first daily newspaper, entitled “The Dairly Courant,” appeareu in 1702. It was a small broadsheet, printed on one side only. The eighteenth arid nineteenth centurnes were periods of great development. They saw the establishment of .at least two of the famous London dailies. “The Times” and the “Morn- ■ ing Post.” •
