OVERSEER RETIRES. An echo of the Government’s economic campaign was heard on Monday afternoon, when the staff of the Public Works Department gathered together to Lid farewell to Mr C. B. Lockett, who is being retired on superannuation. Mr Lockett, who attained the rank of overseer, joined the Department in 1894, being transferred to the Paeroa district from Wanganui in 1919, and since this latter- date he has been engaged in the supervision of road construction throughout the Coromandel Peninsula. On behalf of the staff, Mr A. P. Grant, assistant engineer, asked MrLockett to accept a pocket wallet as a token of the esteem in which Mr Lockett was held by his fellow officers. Further speeches endorsing Mr Grant’s remarks were made by Messrs Murphy, Gibson and Buchanan, after which Mr Lockett suitably replied.
