VALEDICTORY.
TURUA SETTLERS FAREWELLED. The residents of Turua turned out in full force on Tuesday evening to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. T. H. White.and family, who are leaving for Tatuanui. Mr. F. Loader spoke on behalf of the residents, and thanked Mrs. White for her kindly help and sympathy in any worthy cause, and asked her to accept the gift of a lovely eiderdown, He then referred to Mr. White’s great work for the district. He had been a member of the School Committee for fifteen years, an official of the Football Club for very many years, a member of the Domain Board since its formation of the Band, and in the days of the Turua Athletic Sports Club he had taken an active part in its wel'fare. He then presented him with a substantial cheque. , Miss Edith White was presented with a hand bag from the girls of the Hockey Club and Bible Class, while Master “Tom” White was given a fountain pen by the boys of the Band. • The dance music was supplied by Mesdames Mules and J. Thrupp, and Messrs. L. Henwood, J. Miller and H. Kirk, while Mr. A. Sutton acted as M.C. During the evening songs were contributed by Mrs. K. Fox and Mr. A. H. Sutton. | The ladies provided a sumptuous supper, to which full justice was done.
