ILLEGAL TICKETS.
SMOKE CONCERT ADMITTANCE.
FARMERS’ UNION DISAPPOINTED.
General disappointment was expressed by members of the Morrinsville branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union at a meeting on Saturday evening, when it was announced that the smoke concert arranged for members could not be held on account of police regulations. It had been decided to sail tickets at 5s each to members, said Mr Allen, president of the branch, but the police had pointed out that such a proceeding was illegal if liquor was to be served. Presumably there would be liquor. Mr Colbeck: Since when was this law passed ? I have been present at numerous smoke concerts during the past two years, and have paid for admittance. I remember similar functions where Ministers of the Crown were present. A Voice* That wouldn’t be any special recommendation. (Laughter.) A committee was appoipted to further inquire into ways and means of holding the smoke concert.
