OHINEMURI COUNTY.

REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE.

ENGINEER’S REPORT EOR JUNE.

The following report for the month of June was submitted by the acting engineer (Mr L. E. Shaw) to Thursday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council :— “Ordinary maintenance lias been carried out in all ridings, most of the time being taken up on main highways.

“The crusher has not been working full time on account o£ the weather, an tdhe haulage of gravel across t?. ereserve being too costly, I found it necessary to cease crushing until conditions are more favourable.

“The cleaning out of 60 chains of Rotokohu Road drain and 78 chains of Rangiora Road drain has been completed, the settlers contributing half the cost.

“The contracts let in the Kaimana.wa riding for the cleaning out of drains are now completed with the exception of one drain which has been held up on account of excessive water.

“Repairs to the magazine-keeper’s residence, as authorised at last meeting, have been carried out. “A letter has been received from tlie resident engineer, Public Works Department, asking the council to take over the bridge recently erected by the department on Cadman Road over the Tirohia outfall drain. This letter will come before the council to-day. I may state that I have inspected this bridge a..nd see no reason why the council should not accede to the departmnet’s request. “The old bridge oVer the Rotokohu stream on Old Te Aroha Road has been replaced by a new bridge. , This work was. arranged so as to cause as little inconvenience a.s possible to any users of the road. “The annual road estimates for Government grants and subsidies were prepared during the month and handed to the resident engineer, Public Works Department. “A large nu.mber of old wooden culverts on various roads are in urgent need of replacement by concrete pipes, and as there are very few of the sizes required in stock I would ask the council to authorise the purchase of the pipes required.”
