EXCHANGE ON CHEQUES.

REVIEW BY POWER BOARD.

MATTER TO BE INVESTIGATED.

The question of consumers having to add exchange .to their cheques drawn outside of Te Aroha was introduced by Mr J. W. Anderson (Matamata County) at the Thames Valley Electric Power Board meeting yesterday. He contended that the board’s demand for exchange when payment was made by cheque was “too solid, and thought that such centres as Paerca, Matamata, and Morrinsville should be exempt from exchange, and that some arrangement could be made with the banks to enable this to be done.

This view das shared by Mr J. Price (Matamata Town Board), who said the position was that consumers living outside Te Aretha were being taxed unduly. Mr H. M. Corbett (Ohinemuri County) said that all local bodies were similarly situated, and he did not think satisfactory arrangements could be made. “We have done it for some; time- in the Matamata County Council, anyway,” was the reply of Mr Anderson. On the motion of. Mr Anderson it was resolved to refer the ma.tter to the finance- committee for a report.
