The weather was line, and the ground was hi good order, There was a very : in ill attendance of the public. As Netherton played Suburbs ami East played West. the. town anil country factions weie well balanced, and ciieh team had a fair quota o*f support from the public. Probably the East v. West ga.ine attracted most attention, and as is the custom when these two teams meet the game is played for all it is worth. The game on Saturday proved no exception, and was fast, a,nd even throughout.

East kicked off and followed up, but the ball went to the fine.. Nealie bioke away- from the line-out, but was tackled by Dean, who cleared. AVest ifollowcd up, and a scrum resulted five yards out. East went on the attack, but over-eagerness spoiled a chance to score. Swann intercepted and carried play into East’s twenty-five. East again carried down, a,nd in a scramble near the line G. Masters secured and dived over. Royal’s kick failed. East 3, AVest 0.

Soon after the. second quarter opened Hardman was injured, and was replaced by J. Conolly. AVest attacked, Jenyns making a good run before passing to Conolly. The. pass went wide, enabling Treanor to clear. On resuming after half-time Robinson broke, away and passed the opposition. only to be brought down by Dean, who cleared with a long kick. In closes play AVest worked down. The ball went out to Conolly, who centredTreanor attempted to clear, but his kick was blocked, and Conolly, who followed up on the wing, got possession from the rebound and scored. Taylor failed with the. kick. East 3, AVest. 3. East attacked with the kickout, but L.’Masters gained considerable ground with a- long line kick. From the line-out East returned to the attack, but Nield made a fine save. For a breach Taylor took a shot at goal, but missed. In a loose rush Nield marked, and by following up carried play into East’s twentyfive, where a. breach occurred and Swa.nn registered a goa.l. AVest 6, East 3.

The final quarter opened with tivht play, the .West forwards smothering well. Bullock eventually gained possession and relieved. West, returned to the attack, and Nealie was penalised for hanging on, but Swann’s kick went wide. From near the twentylive line East advanced with a rush a,nd Swann forced. West again applied pressure, but Treanor cleared. Dean returned the kick and Moore secured, his kick being marked by Niehl, who found the line. Tlie game ended without any further scores being added. NETHERTON V. SUBURBS

The Netherton v. Suburbs match, which was played on tlie No. 1 ground, resulted in an easy victory for tlie Netherton team by 28 points to 13. The gftme was 'fairly open, and was a very fa,ir exhibition of Rugby. 'Hie first, half was characterised by fast play, the combination of the Netherton backs being particularly good, hi the second half the game wa.s rather’ ragged, both ten,ms appearing to lose pace and dash.

Vedder, B. Bennett. Suburbs kicked off, and Coldicutt gained possession and carried up to near Suburbs’ twenty-five. where he short-kicked. Following up, he regained possession and scored within two minutes of the. game starting. Burt converted. Netherton 5, Suburbs 0. Suburbs carried up from the kick-out, and play hovered in Netherton’s quarter 'for some; time, until G. Pullar cleared from a line-out near the corner. In a loose rush Suburbs suffered a penalty and Burt kicked a good goal. Netherton 8, Suburbs 0. Netheyton immediately attacked, and Coldicutt. was pushed out near the corner. T. Bennett cleared. A forward rush headed by E. Fishe.r, was stopped by Royal who cleared to half-way.

After the change-over Ca,tlin picked up in the loose and, after a good run, passed t.o T. Johnson, who scored. Catlin converted. Netherton 13, Suburbs 0. The kick-but was well fielded by B. Johnson, who carried down, a fiveyards scrum resulting. Burt picked up in the ensuing scramble and potted a goal. Netherton 17, Suburbs 0A. Morrison headed a rush, but a faulty pass negatived the advantage. From a line-out Suburbs carried down, a force resulting. In tight play in front of the posts Royal drop-kicked a goal. Netherton 17, Suburbs 4. In a loose rush inside Netherton’s twenty-five line Killgour crossed the line but was brought back for a breach. The kick was fielded by Dunca.n, who passed to Royal, wiio repeated his performance by dronkicking another goal. Netherton 17,

Suburbs 8. On resuming after half-time Suburbs livened up and play was restricted to Netherton’s territory for some time. E. Fisher headekl a rush, but lost the ball.
