NETHERTON SCHOOL ELECTION.

Sir,—-In reply to a letter signed “CH. Potter” and printed in your issue of June 2 I cannot let two remarks lie made, in reference to myselfc go by without a challenge, because they are untrue. Mr Potter says that I took the business of the school committee to the Ratepayers’ Association against his wishes. This is untrue. Some months ago, at a meeting of the school committee, of which I am a member, I brought up the discussion about improving the grounds with sand. This mafinr has never been discussed by .the school committee since that meeting.- On Saturday, April 10', the Ratepayers’ Association held a meeting, at which I presided, and the tollowing resolution was brought forward: “That the Public Works engineer be a,sked for ten yards of sand, 'free, for a sand-bath for the children.” This resolution was carried without any protest from Mr Potter or anyone else. The hew school committee was notified that the request had been granted, and no time was wasted ip getting the sand on to the school grounds. Mr Potter say, “As can be seen by ‘Con’s’ garbled statements, there wa.s no hesitation: on my pa,rt, and no obvious reason for hesitation. Nor does the president of the.' Ratepayers’ Association enter into this at all.” Mr Potter is wrong. I asked two questions on this matter in the following manner: “Mr Chairman, has any communication been received from the Education Board in connection with relieving the. committee of its liability in connection with the septic tanks The secretary answered my question by saying “No.” I went further by saying that I had read a report in the “Gazette” that through our member, Mr Samuel, the committee. had been 'relieved of the liability.

Mr Potter then produced the letter. I asked these Questions at the meeting of the householders, and I consider any member was perfectly Justified in asking without being irrelevant in any way. I challenge Mr Potter th'a,t 1 will, give £lO to the Scout Queen Carnival if he can prove that I did not ask the a.bove question, and also the; report in the “Gazette” on the same matter, and leave the decision in the hands of the newly elected school committee, of which every member was present at the meeting.
