Profitable Feeding. High Herd Production. A herd of 27 mixed dairy cows, owned by Mr. F. H. Bell, Wainiana, Bay of Plenty, gave a fine return last season. They produced 11,1861 b. of butterfat, an average of 4141 b each. Twentytwo of the cows gave an average of 479.61 b. of fat In 320 days, while the best cow gave 566.89 lb. of fat in 310 days. The cows appeared to be of very ordinary quality of mixed breeds, and cost their owner less than £lO each three years ago. The cows were run on 54 acres of river flats, most of which was in pasture. As supplementary feed they were fed on eight acres of turnips, carrots, mangels, and chou moullier. The land was of excellent quality and the pasture was topdressed with 2icwt. of superphosphate annually. Mr. Bell attributed the performance of the cows to the fact that they were well fed and weU looked after.

11,186 lbs. of Butterfat from 27 Mixed COWS on Land topdressed with SUPERPHOSPHATE

The clipping reproduced above was taken from the “New Zealand Herald” of Friday, August 7th, 1925. Note that the cows were of “very ordinary quality ; that they cost their owner less than £lO each; that the land was top-dressed with 2 J cwt. of Superphosphate annually, and that the farmer attribued the performance of the cows to the fact that they were “well fed.” , This is yet another tribute to the enormous value of Superphosphate as a fertiliser. No other fertiliser can compare with Superphosphate from the aspects of plant-food value, immediate availlasting qualities or economy.
