BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

LTo the Editor}. Sir, —I have just heard with regret that the Paeroa District High School Committee is not assisting to get Bible lessons, read in the day schools, as endorsed and advocated by the late Hon. W. F. Massey and the present Minister for Education. I may state that almost every leading living edumationist in the British Empire and United States of America favours the use of the Bible in primary education. Jf the Bible is read in the high schools and colleges in New Zealand the ds-itrict high school committees should be the first to aid in getting Bible reading in the elementary schools attended by the children of the workers. I may state that I am a New Zealander, and on. visiting the United States of America I was told that the Bible is read without comment in the public schools in many ' States and the Ten Commandments learned. In the boys’ and girls’ colleges in Wellington City the Bible is lead daily. In the Masterton District High School the Bible is read, in England and Scotland for 50 years the Bible has been read daily in the day schools —and are British forbears better or worse for those readings ? 'About 80 per cent of the juvenile .criminals in the United States of ■ America are ignorant of the Ten Commandments. This is a matter for parents and Parliament, and a refeiendum of parents, should be taken. A NEW ZEALANDER.
