RIVER TRAFFIC.
DAILY INCREASE AT THE PUKE. POSITION BEING COPED WITH. The goods traffic, as well as the passenger traffic, on the Waihou River is being .successfully coped with, and the increase in the tonnage of goods has been remarkable during the past few days. A visit to the Puke wharves yesterday clearly showed the amount of stuff that is being lia .'idled. The Taniwha, ’ from Auckland, nl.ich arrived at the Puke on Mondav. was a full ship as far as cat go wa-_ concerned, bringing about 140 tons of general goods, which included a large amount of fruit transhipped at Auckland from the Island steamer The Rotokohu, towing a barge, left the Puke on Monday afternoon for Te Aroha with SO tons of cargo, including 150 cases of fruit for the Waikato, Te Aroha, and Morrinsville. On 'he outward trip the Taniwha carried a cargo of over 1000 boxes of butter from the Matamata district and 350 crates of cheese from the Wti'toa and Waliaroa factories. The steamer Waipu arrived from Auckland early yesterday morning with 100 tons of cargo and 100 cases of fruit for Paeroa, Waihi,' Te Aroha, and the Waikato, and left on the return trip in the afternoon with a full cargo, which included 360 boxes of butter from the To Poi (Matamata) factory, and a large number of passengers. The Kopu, towing a barge left the Puke for Te Aroha yesterday forenoon with a full load of goods, including benzine and fruit, and is due back again this morning with a cargo of dairy produce which' will be carried by the Taniwha to Auckland this morning.
Despite the fact that the quantity of cargo offering is steadily increasing each day the Northern Steamship Co. is coping with the traffic, an-1 there is little or no congestion in the Puke wharfsheds. Consignees can give the company considerable help by taking prompt delivery of goods on the arrival of steamers. A daily service is being maintained between Auckland and Paeroa, and Paeroa and Tc Aroha, and is giving every satisfaction
