HUNTLY 19, NGARUAWAHIA 12. A fast and interesting match was played on thd Recreation Ground, Huntly, on Saturday when the above teams met to try conclusions for the Draffin Cup. Although a heavy shower fell before the game commenced, the ground was in good order and the ball was not too greasy to allow of seme good passing movements. Ngaruawahia were on the attack more often than the home side; but failed to finish a number of movements. Huntly took advantage of their opporI % tunities and generally scored. A good number of spectators was present, and keen interest was taken in the game. The Play. The visitors kicked off, the ball going out. Following a short period of play at midfield, Smith secured from a scrum and made a brilliant run, beating several men to score a fine try. Knight failed with the kick. Ngaruawahia attacked, but Rayner relieved the position and put the visitors on defence. Tittleton'took play to the 25, but Huntly took the offensive again. A scrum was ordered at the 25 and the ball came out to Lee who made a splendid drop-kick goal. Rayner secured and made a good run to the visitors’ corner where he ran out. Lee secured, but failed to get over. From a scrum the ball came to Peckham who made a good run and passed to Timms who scored in the corner. Rayner failed to convert. Tittleton took play to Huntly territory, where he was run out. Abbott secured from the scrum and made a good opening for Hill to score. Tittleton’s shot at goal failed. Ngaruaawhia attacked and Lee was caught in a bad position, but managed to clear. Rayner secured from a scrum and looked dangerous, but good defence saved the situation. Huntly attacked again, but were penalised for an infringement. Abbott followed the kick and put Huntly on the defensive; but Rayner made a fine save. Ngaruawahia attacked again, and from a scrum near the line W. Tittleton rushed over and scored. G. Tittleton failed to goal.

Play was shifted to Huntly territory, but from a scrum Rayner and Peckham secured and put the visitors on the defensive. Tittleton relieved the position and play went to Huntly’s territory. Huntly had a kick and play travelled up and down. Knight secured from a kick and ran to Ngaruawahia’s territory, where he went out. Timms started well, but a forward pass spoilt the movement Hill shifted play to the 25 where Fleming secured and made a good run to score an unconverted try. Tittleton and Hill made a good attempt and play went to Huntly’s territory. Ngaruawahia made a continuous assault but failed to get over Stevenson and Fleming carried play to the visitors’ territory, but good defence prevented a try. Huntly attacked again and just on the call of time Miki secured from a scrum and ran in to score between the posts. Rayner goaled, and the game ended with the score: Huntly 19, Ngaruawahia 12. Mr R. T. Hill controlled the game. NORTHLAND v. SOUTH AL K LAND. Followers of the League code will have the opportunity of seeing a great game on Saturday when Northland and South Auckland meet on the League ground, Ngaruawahia, to decide the ownership of the Northern Union Cup of which South Auckland are the holders. This contest should provide the spectators with a fast and spectacular game, well worth watching all through. The South Auckland team is as follows: — Fullback: G. Tittleton (Taupiri).
