BLASTING ACCIDENT

RIGHT HAND BLOWN OFF. While blasting logs with gelignite in the swamp at Mr R. Perry’s farm at Kimihia, on Saturday afternoon, Mr Robert Porteous, aged 22, son of Mrs I. Porteous, of Hakanoa Street, Huntly, had his right hand blown away. He was working in company with Messrs H. T. and S. Perry, and the first they knew that anything had happened was when on turning around, they saw that their companion had had his hand blown off. Dr. D. C. Macdiarmid promptly arrived on the scene, and after attending the sufferer, ordered his removal to the Hamilton Hospital, where he was successfully operated on shortly after.
