County councillors have a low opinion of the efficacy of scheme 5 employment. At the last meeting of the Raglan County Council it was referred to as “daisy picking,” and shaving footpaths. The demand was for something permanent. Evidently the banks are not quite so bad as they arc painted. Ramsay MacDonald has cleared them of the charge of promoting a “ramp" for political purposes, and even Mr. Henderson stated in the House of Commons that he would not dream of complaining about the banks.
