HOUSE DESTROYED.
OCCUPANTS’ HURRIED EXIT On Saturday morning last, about 1.30 a.m., an eight-roomed house, situated on the shores of Lake Hakanoa, Kimihia, owned by Mrs. M. Paterson and occupied by her son, Mr. James Paterson and his wife and child, was destroyed by fire. Mrs. J. Paterson was awakened by falling timbers and on arousing her husband discovered the whole house ablaze. Hastily donning clothing and wrapped in blankets, they made a rapid exit, picking up the cups won by Mr. Paterson’s racehorse, Hakanoa. as they left the burning' building. Included in the contents lost was a handbag belonging to Mrs. Paterson containing over £3O in cash. Mr J. Paterson’s effects were insured in the Norwich Union office for £340, and he is a heavy loser. The building was •covered in the New Zealand office for £4OO.
