ANNUAL MEETING 1 The annual meeting and reunion cf the local branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association held on Friday, the 18th instant, was largely attend- | ed. Messrs. E. H. Sharp and W. O. i Wise, secretary and executive mem* * her respectively of the Auckland Re- * turned ?Jiuiers’ Association were prej sent, and addressed the meeting on several matters directly affecting rej turned soldiers. j The balance sheet disclosed that * the Association had had a most sucj cessful year, finishing up with a sub-* 1 stantial credit balance. The commits tee’s report also disclosed that the - branch was actively engaged in ass- ’ isting returned men and in catering > for the social needs of its members, t An innovation this year was the ' attendance of Peden’s Band; a num--1 ber of popular selections were rendered by this clever combination of mu- - sicians and were highly appreciated. ? During the evening songs were con- * tributed by Messrs Penman, Taylor, Wilkinson, Harris, Johnstone, Foster, and Andrew's, and a recitation by Mr. Hooper. The election of officers resulted as 1 follow's:—president, H. A. Andrews; e vice-president, N. Greenwell; secres tary and treasurer, J. Porteous; comr mittee, Messrs. Smith, Harris, Walli 1 ace, Scott, Beadle, Turnbull, and Gillt j ings. - j The meeting concluded at midnight ’ w ith the singing of ‘Auld Lang Syne.’
