Combined Sunday School Picnic.

The annual Combined Sunday School Picnic was held by kind permission in Mr Harris’ paddock at Huntly West on Saturday last. The day was cool and cloudy and ideal for picnicking, the few slight showers which fell being too light to affect the enjoyment of the children and their friends.

It is estimated that fully 500 people were on the ground and from start to finish things went with a swing that showed that all were enjoying themselves. The eommitte had made ample provision for amusing and feeding the children, and with swings see-saws and games generally the morning was soon enjoyably spent. At 12.30 the children were gathered together to discuss the first meal and they did full Justice to it. In the afternoon the usual sports were held and those in charge of the starting, etc., had their hands full for two or three hours. After that, more games and tea and again more games until approaching darkness warned the tired but happy picnickers that it was time to turn homewards.

The picnic must be pronounced to be one of the most successful yet held, and this success is due largely to the forethought of the various committees and also to the very great help which was rendered by friends, for never before has the Union had such a host of ready and efficient helpers. The Union would like to give public recognition to each of those who so generously assisted in various ways, but there are so many, that all names could not be given and it would be invidious to single out a few, so that they can only take this opportunity to thank all and sundry who gave such valuable and voluntary help.
