MONTHLY MEETING. The-monthly meeting of the Hokitika R.S.A. was held last evening. Present: Dr. T. W. J. Childs (President), Messrs R. Paterson (secretary), F. McGregor, W. East-gae, G C. Wilson, G. A. King, J. N. Robinson, C. H. Harrison. T. Stuart, C. Hart, H. Park, H. Wells, J. S. Bain and P. R. Whit-ford. Mr Whitford reported on the visits to the exservicemen in Hospitals in Hokitika, there being only four inmates at present. The usual tobacco was issued. Messrs Stuart and Wells vere appointed visitors for the next month. An invitation was received Irotn the National Reserve, Greymouth, to attend a social on the 16th inst. The President regretted that he was unable to attend owing to the social being held on the sann* night as the mo»il\ly meeting.

Headquarters advised that the Canteen Fund allocation for the months of August- September, October and November .was £2OOO to bo devoted towards the alleviation of distress among ex-sei-viccmcn. No grant- has been made to Hokitika owing to there being no unemployed ex-servicemen in the district.

A circular was also received, from Headquarters stating that the national financial membership at the end of November was 32,953. For comparison! putposes the figures were quoted for the same period last year and wore 25,674. Hokitika is shown as 37th on the membership ladder, with a membership of 206. There was a total of 91 associations throughout New Zealand.

An expression of opinion was requested by Headquarters as to the most suitable date for the end of the financial year. It was decided to suggest that the end of April be the most- suitable^date.

Tho secretary was instructed to forward Xmas Greetings to Headquarters. The meeting decided to make the usual visit to the soldier patients in the local hospitals on Xmas Day and to issue the usual Xmas cheer. The President extended congratulations to Mr Eastgate on his being appointed Group Commander of the Home Guard and assured him that he would have the full co-operation of the local R.S.A. Mr Eastgate suitably replied after which the chairman extended tlie season’s greetings to all.
