FLYING BOAT BELAYED (Per Press Association—Copyright). AUCKLAND, December 9. Delayed ‘in her departure from Sydney, the flying-boat “Ayvarua” did not reach Auckland until 5.2,p.m. yesterday, after a trip lasting eight hours 37 minutes. The delay was caused in making minor adjustments found necessary during the usual inspections before departure. Scheduled to leave at C . a.m. (New Zealand time) the “AAvarua” did not take off until 8 a.m. Fifteen passengers ' were carried. The machine was commanded by Captain 0. Garden. It carried 8411 b. of mail and 4321 b. of freight. It will leave for Sydney on Thursday, and will return on Sunday. WATERSIDER KILLED NELSON, December 9. A waterside worker, . Frederick William Townsend, 67, a widower, was killed instantly on the Nelson wharves when assisting in unloading the coastal vessel, “Port Waikato.” Crates of cargo, each weighing four hundredweight, we re being landed on to trucks, whop a sling cpntaining two .crates, swung out from the ship, and crushed him against a truck. Deceased has a young family. N.Z. SEAMEN’S CONDEMNATION; WELLINGTON, December 9. Support for the country’s effort and condemnation of subversive activities were expressed at a meeting of the council of the Federated Seamen’*s Union at Wellington fast week, The meeting gave unanimous support to the ' war effort and sent a deputation to the Prime Minister Fraser) to express its sentiments and its appreciation of what had been done by the Govern*meat. A resolution Avas presented to the Prime Minister and later unanimously endorsed by a large .majority of seamen. It calls upon the Government to safeguard the country and the workers in particular, by using its powers to deal effectively with those who, the union considers, are apparently satisfied to hand this country over to the forces of imperialist totalitarian aggressors.
