HOKITIKA D.H.S.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Hokitika District High School Committee was Held .last evening. Present: Messrs A. C. Armstrong (chairman), J. Lawrence, A. Leslie, R. J. Pedder, J. Laing, L. Graham, Rev, M. Feist and the Headmaster (Mr C. A. Batt).

Apologies for absence were received from Messrs King and Richards. Accounts amounting to £rO/H/6 were passed for payment.

It was decided to pay a Xmas bonus to the caretaker.

The Education Board advised that the following dates were-set down for the school terms in 1941. First term 4th February to 9th May. Second term 27th May to 22nd August. Third term, 9th September to 19th December. The Headmaster reported the present roll number as: Primary 316, Secondary ;9, the average attendance for month being be'ng 92.2 p?r cent. It was dt cided to take out an insurance cover on all property in the school owned by the committee and which w'ould not be replaced by the Board in the event of damage by fire. ' It was decided to discontinue the practice of inscribing the names of the winners on the; cups won by the scffic(!ars during the year and to substitute a scroll with the list of cup winners and to display it in a prominent position in file school. This was due to the heavy expense entailed in the engraving of the cups.

The usual grant of £3/3/- was made for a Xmas tree party for the infant ffiildren.

The Headmaster reported that the breaking up ceremony would take place in Wednesday, 18th and he invited the parents and members of the committee to attend. An invitation to attend is also to be extended to the Clergy, the Mayor and Mayoress and Mr R. Wild (member of the Education Bonnet). The Chairman extended Xmas greetings to the committee and to the Headmaster and In’s staff, which were reciprocated by those present. It.was decided to hold a special meeting on Monday next to discuss the holding of the annual picnic.
