THURSDAY’S CARNIVAL

The carnival -arranged by the Hokitika Swimming Committee will be held this coming Thursday evening in the new Centennial Memorial Baths. So as not to clash with the w r eekly meeting of the Homo Guard, the committee resolved to change from Wednesday to Thursday evening. . . '

The following programme. has been .arranged:— Learners’ races, one width of the baths; open to all.learners. Races will be arranged for boys and girls, ; y ”V Ladies races, 25 yards and 50 yards. Girls’ race, 25 yards; 18 and under. Men’s and ladies’ diving events, y "K. School Events: Primary Division-r -. Boys’ races, 50 yards, 25 yards dash; girls’ races, 50 yards, 25 yards dashi.yyL In the Primary Division races will bo yh arranged for boys and girls under 12 years of age, and over 12 years. Boys’ and girls’ diving events. Boys’ obstacle race, 25 yards. Egg and Spoon races, 25 yards, for girls and boys. ; > ' Veteran’s Race, 25 yards, for men 40 years and over. All entries will he free, and will be accepted at the baths, up till .the time of starting. , ■ v V

- In . the ladies’ race;: competitors: are requested to hand their. nominations into Mr R. Cooper. - Already 15 nominations have been received for the ladies’ race,' and 13 entries for the girls’ race. The admission fees will he adults 1/-, children ,6d. The total proceeds will be devoted towards the cost of building a modern caretaker’s cottage within the bath enclosure.

A meeting of the committee will be held at the baths on Tuesday evening at 7 o’clock to finalise the arrangements.' ,

Mr W. J. Bruce has undertaken to arrange electrio lighting for the carnival.

The baths were emptied this morning, and will be filled fresh and clean for the carnival on Thursday evening.

The Municipal Band will play a programme of music prior to the start of iho carnival.
