“Such a loan is tantamount to challenging war with Japan,” declared the newspaper “Hochi Shi'mbun” today, when commenting editorially upon the United Ctates’ decision to grant China a loan of 100,000,000 dollars, “ft is like throwing bombs against the foundation work for the establishment of the New Order in East Asia. It has given an unpleasant and an unforgettable impression to the Japanese people.’

The Emperor of Japan has installed Mr Kumataro Honda, formerly Japanese Ambassador to Germany and to Turkey, as Ambassador to the Nanking Government, succeeding General Abe. Vice-Admiral Boshiro Hosogaka has been appointed Supreme Commander of the Japanese Fleet in South China waters, succeeding Vice-Admiral Umataro Tanimoto, who lias been assigned to tho General Staff of the Navy.
