CARDIFF BEAT N.Z. ARMY.
(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright). (Received this day at 9 a.m.) CARDIFF, December 8. The defeat of the New Zealand Army-Rugby team by 12 to 3 yesterday, is regarded easily as the best match of the Welsh season. The New Zealanders until the last few minutes had every hope of overcoming the handicap of an early dropped goal by Cardiff. ■ The “Sunday Times” says none of the t,cn thousand spectators would have complained if the New Zealanders’ hopes were realised. There was a happy mixture of stirring forward play, combined with work by the backs, which was hard to beat as a spectacle. A little more thrust on the part of the All Blacks five eighths, would have made a tremendous difference. Although hooking in the hard scrummages was poor, the closeness of the markings and excellence of- the tacklings, were the best features of the New Zealanders’ play. Cardiff penalty goaled just before the interval. Howell scored a splendid try for New Zealanders near the end. Cardiff then after a. sweeping dribble, obtained a converted try.
