AMUSEMENTS

REGENT THEATRE.

TO-NIGHT FINALLY.

“FRENCH WITHOUT TEARS.”

When he returned from making a picture in London, Hay Milland talked enthusiastically of a new continental film personality who is becoming a “rave” abroad. He’s Jim Gerald, a'French comedian who plays a< character role with Milland and his co-star, Cinderella Girl Ellen Drew, in Paramouiit’s screen version of “French Without Tears,” playwright Terence Rattigan’s London stage success. M. Gerald, according to Milland, is a monumental individual with one, of the most pleasing personalities he ever has encountored. I “Re’s wide enough for two men,’’ said Milland. “He has ;» huge,' roly poly face, lobster red from exposure to sun and wind, which is almost continuously wreathed in smiles. He uses an outsize fountain pen and a can as thick as a child’s wrist. And his sense of humour is prodigious too.” A second French appearing in tho cast is Janine Darcey, a vivacious brunette. A good supporting programme will also be screened including News, Headliner, “Bowling Skill”, Sportlight, Novelty, and Popeye Cartoon.

TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY

“SAILOR’S LADY.”

Preview audiences are still laughing and chuckling over the riotous comedy in “Sailor’s Lady.” starring Nancy Kelly and Jon Hall, which comes tomorrow to the Regent; Theatre.- .The Navy is the background for this 20th Century-Fox picture. There’s laughter from ship to shore. And. of course, it’s grand when the gobs land to take the girls in hand. Smart, full of surprises, the picture zooms along at a fast pace to a riotous climax when a sailor’s sweetheart stows away her adopted baby on the flagship and scuttles the Navy’s war games—all for love, of course.
