URGE TO FACILITATE SHIPPING

WELLINGTON, December 6. Concern at the effect on New Zealand shipping of British losses being reported from week to, week, and the Tier'd of facilitating to the utmost extent the loading and unloading of overseas -vessels, was emphasised at a meeting of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.
It was urged that work should not cease on overseas ships from the moment they arrived in port still the last cargo had been placed on board, and it was considered that, if possible, ___ shift work should enable the work to continue for the whole 24 hours of the dav.
The following resolution was carried: “That tho executive requests a full public statement be made concerning the rate of loading and unloading cargo at New Zealand main ports, com- { pared with that from five to ten years _ ago, and also regarding the terms of pay and conditions relating to employment on the waterfront.”
