FEDERAL POLITICS
A COMPROMISE. AFTER VERY HIGH TENSION. (Received this day at 12 noon). MELBOURNE. December 4. Political tension is at the highest peak. Speculation is rife concerning the Menzies Government. Politicians aro smarting under newspaper criticism and when the Budget debate wa s continued in the House of Representatives this afternoon, it carried on for a short time when the House unexpectedly adjourned for the night so as to allow the various parties to hold meetings tonight and find the basis ‘ for a compromise on the taxation proposals. The debate is resuming to-morrow. Eleventh hour proposals on the Budget for a compromise were made by the Federal Ministry at a meeting earlier to-day of the War Advisory Council.
