AN APPOINTMENT

WELLINGTON, Sep. 16

Major-General Sir Andrew Russell has beeii appointed Inspector-General of the New Zealand Military Forces.

Hon. F. Jones said for some time the Government had hee-n considering a programme lor extending ail'd strengthening the military, forces. Seven AriUy officers had been organising, equipping, administering and training a rmic-li increased Territorial Army as well as maintaining a regular flow of reinforcements for tf*e forces overseas. In order to assist these, and relieve the pressure .of work, and at the same time- utilise fully his experience and capabilities, the Government has decided on the appointment of Brigadier-General Sir Andrew .Russell. Other important changes at present are under consideration.

OFFERS OF HOMES. WANGANUI, Sep. 16

Two hundred oilers of .homes, for 230 British children have been received in this district. About 30 children; roll be housed in Wanganui Health Camp till claimed by foster parents. Other children are to be taken into homes in. the city and will be claimed as soon as they reach Wanganui.
