CHIEF JUSTICE’S COMMENT. WELLINGTON, July 15. , The duty of every citizen to give loyal co-operation to the Government in advancing the war effort was stressed in a charge to the Grand Jury by the Chief Justice, who'commented that the justification for the Emergency Regulations lay in the Empire’s 'need. The powers given the Government would not be agreeable to democracy in normal times, hut the times were not normal and no one had attempted to' deny that the peril to the British Empire was great. The comment was made by Sir Michael' Myers when dealing with three indictments containing charges of making subversive state- 1 merits.
