The German invasion of Holland is likely to have some effect on the cocktail, so far-reaching are the effects of war—to say nothing of import. restrictions. For 1939 there is no differentiation shown in gin, which includes Hollands, Schnapps, and Geneva, hut the full returns for 1938 are out, showing that New Zealand imports of gin from Holland amounted to 46,100 gallons of a value of £34,936. - Certain liquers also came from Holland. Not. all of the gin went into the compounding of cocktails, because medicinal virtues are attributed to certain Dutch gins,
