SITUATION NO WORSE. GERMANS SLACKEN UP. LONDON, May 18.' Tt is authoritatively stated that the military situation in France is still very serious, but it certainly is no worse, and is possibly a little better. The German advance on the French front has markedly slackened on Saturday, but perhaps this is only temporary. The exhaustion of German units engaged is most apparent. The Gormans claim to have broken the Maginot Line. This is untrue It is pointed out that the Maginot Line ends at Montmody.
