The appointment of a scientific advisory committee to co-ordinate the uses of the scientific resources of the country in their relation to the problems of defence was announced tonight by the Minister for Defence (the 'Hon. F. Jones)."

The (inninittee will consider, as they arise, scientific problems affecting the armed services* and whereuver possible will assist in the provision and design of scientific equipment which may be required for the forces. Various scientific officers of the Government will be available, to co-operate with the committee on special problems. Initially, the committee will consist of: Dr. J. C. Andrews, chemical engineer and manager ol Hellabyjj, Ltd., Auckland.

Liaison has already been established with the appropriate scientific authorities in other parts of the Commonwealth. and every effort is being made to bring the aid of science to the service of our war cffoit.
