MONTHLY MEETING. MONDAY, JANUARY 15. The Council met at 8.20 p.m. Present: Mr G. A. Perry (Mayor), Crs. C. Caliari, W. H. Stopforth, J. Fox,; G. Heinz, A. R. Elcock, and D. P. Stuart. Apologies were made for Crs. Parry, Freitas, and Turner. The minutes were confirmed, and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From N.Z. Refrigerating Co., advising there were delivered into the Hokitika abattoir district during the month of December, seven sheep.—Received. >: ■ ' • From Hokitika Beautifying Association, extending the compliments of the season to the members of- the Council, and expressing appreciation of the assistance rendered during 1939. From Hokitika Beautifying Association, stating that the Association and the Swimming Club are co-oper-ating in endeavouring to improve the section next to Mr Howat s butchery, and stating that a considerable amount of filling is required, and asking whether Council would assist with suitable filling—Received. . From Brunner Picnic Committee, application for the use of Cass Square for annual picnic on Saturday' February 3. —Received; request granted; From Blackball School Picnic Committee, application for the use of Cass Square on February 10. —Received; request granted. Sec., Emergency Purposes Committee, advising that an Executive Committee consisting of the Chairman of the Westland County Council, the Mayors of Hokitika, Kumara and Ross, and the Member ■for Westland, has been set up 'to. deal wit'll general matters, and it was resolved to levy £4O for administration purposes; the quota from the Hokitika Borough Council is‘£ll/15/-. —Received and amount passed. From manager, Westland Dairy Factory, application for permission to instal a second septic tank at the dairy factory premises, Weld Street.— Received; request granted.

From Lionel Graham, submitting offer for tar-sealing footpaths.—Received ; consideration deferred for further information. From D. M. Oldham, Park Street, application for permission to instal a septic tank at residence.—Received; request granted. From R. S. Huxford, advising that he had built a new house in north Revell Street, west side, north of Tudor Street, and asking at what distance from the electric light poles his front fence is to be, and also asking for assistance to shift a large pile of sand on the roadway in front of his house.—Received. It was reported by the ; Town Clerk that the Survey Department would survey the area and fix sections at a cost of £34. It was agreed that the offer be. accepted, the application of Mr Huxford to be held over meantime. REPORTS. The Treasurer reported receipts £231/14/2, payments £1029/12/5, dr. balance £1(392/12/11. —Received. Accounts amounting to £536/3/9 were passed for payment. From manager abattoirs, reporting there were slaughtered during December, 26 cows, 36 heifers, 35 bullocks, 378 sheep, 283 lambs, 12 pigs, 6 calves. Condemned, 1 sheep. Fees for month, £BB/17/6 (same month last year, £B9/10/-). —Received. Necessary repairs to the water supply at the abattoirs were authorised on the motion of Cr. Fox, Chairman of Committee. It was resolved to obtain a report of necessary repairs to the Town Hall, with a view to having the building painted. The. Health Inspector’s report for the month was read and received. The report on public buildings was also received, and it was decided to notify those affected of the requirements. It was resolved that an inspection be made of the public buildings as to stability, each year by Mr T). Stevenson, prior to the issue of a license. Mr I’. Haddock was appointed poundkoeper and ranger at a salary of £SO per year. The Town Clerk was authorised to procure several water meters. . It was resolved that tenders he in-, vited for a reserve, 494. subject to providing for a .right of way and aeccs<\ to Miss Ward’s property.
