WELLINGTON, Sept. 25. “The first 20 days after the most flagrant Nazi invasion of European liber ties lias been memorable for Ncav Zealand,” says the Director of Publicity (Mr J. T. Paul) in a statement. “They have been fruitful in successive steps to protect the interests and preserve the security of our people and British civil isation.” Every step taken by the Government, he added, had been measured and designed to extend the national effort. The fact that the courageous lead given had been supported by all sections of the community meant national unity, and unity, was strength. He mentioned the co-operation with the Gqvernment by the Leader and members of the Opposition in Parliament, the Neiv Zealand Labour Party and the Federation of Labour, employers and manufacturers, farmers and producers, and organisations and citizens. Mr Paul emphasised the importance of men, in their zeal to help stem the tide of Nazi aggression, not to underestimate the importance of their present work in tho community. “The response to the nation’s call for a special force for service in New Zealand or overseas has been magnificent, but all men should remain at their civil posts till the call comes. They also serve Avho carry on,” said Mr Paul. The Government would direct the collective power of New Zealand in its war effort, and the achievement of the first 20 days Avas an earnest of all future days, or years if necessary, to assist in the destruction of the domination now regarded as a world menace.
