The Nelson races concluded with a good attendance. The track was hard and the weather was perfect. The tote handled £7171, for seven races, as compared with £7449 for the first day’s meeting.’ The * figures ’ were £15,378. as compared with £15,121 last!year. REBEL RANK DESTROYED

Winner of the Electric Handicap on the'first day, Rebel Rank fell in the Stoke Handicap and broke a leg, being subsequently destroyed. His rider, R. Caddy; broke his left arm through, crashing on the rails, and was.'taken to hospital. Prediction was: also brought down in the race, G. Tattersall suffering slight concussion. Leased by Mr A. u. Blackburn and trained by M. Conza, at Riecarton, Rebel Rank was a three-year-old bay colt by Robespierre—Front Rank, and bad shown considerable promise in sprints at minor’-meetings.. .. Spear Chief won the Brisbane Cup ■ to-day, for the second occasion, in the Australasian record time of. 3.19 J. The iplacings were Spear Chief 1; Six Fifty 2 ; L’Aiglon 3. Thirteen started. Spear Chief was'a fair way back in the early part of the race, but won going away, by three lengths, with two lengths between second and third. Time 3.191. This beats AVotan’s record of 3.21 V in the Melbourne Cup in 1936.
