LONDON, May 1
In a May Day manifesto, the National Council of Labour declares: Workers, who are still bearing the deadweight burden of the last war, are being called on to make fresh' sacrifices in the Nation’s service. Organised labour does not flinch at sacrifices, which strengthen the Nation’s defences, and protect the people and their homes, but we protest against the Government’s decision to impose conscription in peace time in violation of the Prime Minister’s pledges, and despite the fact that the voluntary response for service far exceeded the Government’s provision of necessary supplies and equipment.' The manifesto asks workers in other countries, especially those where Governments are preparing for war, to unite with British workers so as to restrain aggressors. CONTENTS OF BILL. # (Received this day at 11.10 a.m.). LONDON, May 1. , The Military Training Bill includes Northern Ireland, hut conscription is not applicable until war is imminent.
