FIRE AT WAIMATE

WAIMATE, April 25

One of the most spectacular fires ever seen in Wahnate occurred after 4 o’clock this morning, when an 18-room-ed wooden house in Shearman Street, known as “Whareora,” was totally destroyed. The house was unoccupied. It was built about 40 years ago, and was the property of the Barclay Estate. It had been leased to Mrs S. B. Os borne, of Timaru. The lease still having five years to run, she had sub-lot it for use as a hoarding establishment. The house Was fully furnished, but had been vacated at least six weeks ago.
