N.Z. MADE GOODS

HON. SULLIVAN’S COMMENT.

•t ■ 1 (Per Press Association —Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 12. “The campaign urging the purchase of New Zealand-made goods is well under way and I am confident that its importance is fully recognised by the public and that they will respond to the appeal in a practical manner,” said the Hon D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, in an interview to-day. “The Governor-General, the Prime Minister, and myself, have already made radio appeals, and these are being followed by radio addresses by other Members of Cabinet, labour organisations, manufacturers’ associations and others. In addition, large posters are being exhibited on hoardings in the main centres, and thousands of smaller posters are being distributed through the medium of mainufaoturers’ associations, labour organisations and Government Departments, to factories, workshops public works camps, Government offices, railway stations, etc.”

“A talkie picture of the Hon. D. 0. Sullivan is also being shown in picture theatres giving a message on this subject. “Every effort is being made to brino' the appeal as strongly as possible before every section of the community, and I am certain that the appeal will result in a greater appreciation of the goods made iu our own factories by oui own people and in increased purchases of locally manufactured articles.”

■“I am especially pleased.” Mr Sullivan said, “with the enthusiastic manner in which the Manufacturers’ Federation. the Federation of Labour, and the executive heads of all the gie.it labour organisations have thrown themselves info the campaign. They have made pronouncements, written articles, and circularised their members throughout the country asking for the support of Now Zealand industries by the purchase of New Zealand-made, goods.* 'Phis campaign is of verv great- importance to the welfare of New Zealand at the present time, and 1 sincerely trust that the people will realise that, the success of the campaign will have •a- "beaming on the prosperity of the mitre; the nuiuhe,. of jobs available; the position of the overseas funds etc., and that all will help to the uttermost 'this Christmas by minimising Now Zealand-made goods.”
