CHRISTCHURCH, Sep. 21 Beef sold rather better at .to-day’s Addington sale, while fat sheep prices improved after an easier opening. There was a spring lambs entry of 61 head, and a keen sale resulted. The . quality was poor. Best lambs sold to 34s 7d. The store sheep entry was 1,000 head, the quality being poor. It was a dragging sale. Ewes with lambs sold to 15s 6d; and M.S. hoggetts to 15s 6d. On ten wethers there was no offer. The fat sheep entry totalled 5,000, the quality generally being better. The sale opened easier, if anything, for both wethers and ewes, but prices were better by up to Is a head as the sale progressed, when wethers firmed. A small entry of ewes sold at par. Passings were numerous. Best wethers fetched 31s lOd, and best ewes 26s lOd. The fat cattle formed the smallest, entry for some time, only 355 head. The, quality was good. The market opened strongly in all classes. Prime steers, prime cows and heifers were up by 20s to 25s per bead. Best beef sold to 45s per lOOlbs. Extra prime heavy steers sold to £2O 12s fid; prime heavy steers £l6 15s to £lB 10s; prime medium steers £ls to £l6 10s; light and ordinary steers £ll 5s to £l4 10s ; extra prime heifers £l4 12s 6d; prime heifers £ll 5s to £l2 10s; medium heifers £9 15s to £11; light heifers to £9 10s; extra prime cows to £ls 17s fid: prime cows £7 10s to £9 15s; light cows to £7 ss.

The store cattle were a mixed entry, with the quality poor. The market maintained recent rates for better classes. A pen of shorthorn steers sold at £8 2s fid.

The yarding in the pork section was of medium size, but about half of the entry comprised plain and unfinished sorts. For the better quality pigs prices were about 2s a head dean r, while other descriptions were 2s to 3s easier. Choppers were yarded in small numbers and met with an excellent sale.
