Four , passengers were killed, forty injured, and 'six of the crew are believed to have been killed as the result ofi a head-on collision of two Southern Pacific trains 180 miles from Los Angeles. * : Apparently a switch did not work, causing the Argonaut from New Orleans* to crash into the Chicago-bound Californian, waiting on a'siding, and overturning both locomotives.
