A FATAL FIRE

A fire broke out late on Monday night in the large Wentworth Hotel.: It started on the fourth floor and gutted the two upper floors; iy William Redwood, aged 13, who wastrapped in a room on the fifth floor jumped fo his death, in view of hundreds of horrified spectators. Mrs Mary Byers 82, ig in a critical condition,' suffering from burns all over he r body. She was rescued by Mesdames R. M. Wilkins and C. Reece who ar-' rived from New Zealand only yesterday. ‘ ■* . The night porter rescued J .D. Smith of from hi s bedroom. Altogether nine people were treated for burns,'shock and abrasions. Two in hospital include Mrs Euphemia Cornfort, 63 of New Zealand. Her condition is satisfactory. Three floors wer e burned out./
