S. Lyons in opening his campaign as an Independent for Mid-Canterbury. He deplored the existence of partyfunds. Candidates should fight their own battles at their own expense. While Labour .had done much good work, its public works policy and social security .legislation/,pere reckless ventures, ithe..Security Act leading in the finish to undermining of all rberiefits because taxation was . so heavy that it would take away what was given.
