POLICY SPEECH TO BE GIVEN NEXT WEEK. ' N Per Press Association—Copyright). WELLINGTON, September 13. The policy on which New Zealand’s first Labour Government will go to 1 the electors seeking a further term of office will be disclosed in a speech to be delivered by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J, Savage), in the Wellington Town Hall, some time next week. This information was given by Mr Savage in an interview this evening. '■./-... f , “The election campaign will open jn earnest very shortly after the House rises,” the Prime Minister said. “My policy speech on behalf of the Goveernnaerit will he made in Wellington some time next week, and it wil be broadcast. The same facilities for *tating the National Party’s case will, of qourse, be extended to the Leader of the Opposition, and I shall give a complete outline of the arrangements for political broadcasting during the campaign before the end of the session.”
Mr Savage said he proposed to do a fair amount of travelling during the campaign,' although he would not be able to visit every place in Nqw Zealand. However, lie would visit all the main centres, and would spehji-n short time in bis own electorate. “I am afraid I shall not be able to spend very long in my own electorate,” the Prime Minister added. “With the position I hold mv responsibility is to all the people in New Zealand, and I can best discharge my responsibility to the electors of Auckland West by endeavouring to work for the good of the Dominion as a whole.” BULLER CANDIDATE. !; WESTPORT. He served his’apprenticeship in the mercantile marine and trq’veiled extensively on’- the ' Continent . arid r all over, the world especially studying economics.- He has been mainly conneated - with advertising in New Zealand. AUCKLAND, September 13./ A ballot to select the official National Party candidate to contest tfie Auckland Central seat at • the ; forthcoming General Election was held tonight, and resulted in the selection of Mr C. R v Dodd. The other nominee was Mr F. H. Hildreth. The seat is at present held by the Hon. W ; -E. Parry, Minister for Internal Affairs.; Mr Dodd is accountant to the Auckland branch, of the firm of .J: K. Mooney and Company, Ltd. He was educated at Wellington College, continu-. ing his studies in England for two years before returning to New Zealand. , In 1935, as a- Democrat candidate, he unsuccessfully contested the Auckland Central seat. ~, .
